Motivation
The teaching of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Engineering is rapidly changing by the fast-paced development of novel technology and paradigms. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has abruptly modified the way of teaching, especially in hands-on lab courses. The aim of the IEEE German Education Conference (GECon) is to bring together researchers and teachers to discuss and expand the status-quo of teaching at German academic institutions, in
order to educate graduates on the skillset required by the industry.GECon 2023
Due to the great success of the first instance of GECon in 2022 with 28 accepted submissions, the conference will return in 2023. The hybrid event, hosted by the IEEE Germany Section and locally organized by TU Berlin, aims to provide a platform to discuss better teaching methodologies in German institutions, foster collaboration among educational institutions, and develop partnerships between academia and industry. Next to scientific submissions, the conference offers workshops and panels interchange experiences regarding online teaching, labs, and evaluations.
Topics of interest (but not limited to)
- Online courses: Teaching of hands-on activities, best, practices on online courses, Massive open online courses.
- Non-traditional teaching in engineering education: gamification, project-based learning, professional skills.
- Digitalization strategy in education
- STEM education initiatives, e.g. K-12 education
- Role of education regarding new paradigms and technologies: Society & Industry 5.0, IoT/IoE, 5G/6G, Cyber-physical systems, Digital twins.
- Collaborative learning networks between nongovernmental organizations, academia, and industry.

Submissions Guidelines
Contributions have to be submitted through this online system. Non-compliance with the templates including excessive length will lead to rejection. Any submission requires to have at least one author registered to the conference once accepted. Multiple submissions require one distinct registration per each accepted submission. Disrespect for this usual rule will lead to acceptance cancellation.
Authors are invited to submit:
- Full papers: 6 pages,
- Work-in-progress or Short Papers: 4-5
All submissions will be subject to a peer-review process by independent reviewers. Accepted and presented full papers, short papers, and work-in-progress papers are intended to be published in IEEE Xplore, subject to meeting IEEE Xplore’s scope and quality requirements, therefore they have to be written in English.
